About six months ago I had nothing to do at work. I was just about to transition out of one project to another and hadn't had much going on for awhile. I was reading *lots* of online newspapers and that's when I got into blogs. I used to send people lots of newspaper articles to read every day. My friend Ginny said I should start a list serve of articles to read. I started getting busier at work, and I started sending less email, though I haven't stopped completely.
Here are somethings I've read today (or this week) that I think you should check out:
Alternet has an interesting article by a young man from Cincinnati co-founded a community-based non-profit. He argues why we need to build a better progressive infrastructure in the Midwest.
I just read that Bob Sirott's term on Chicago Tonight is almost up and that WTTW may not have the funding to keep him. This saddens me greatly. I don't watch the show religiously, but I always watch it if I find it on. I've learned a lot about the city on that show. It will be a great loss if he leaves.
According to scientists the morning after pill isn't equivalent to having an abortion. Not that this surprises me greatly, but I'm sure it's a fact that the anti-choice people don't want advertised. The more they can make it about baby-killing the better. My, my, grandmother, what big teeth you have!
Apparently there is a movement afoot to get rid of the possessive apostrophe!! What?! There is a quote in the article that I love:
"Punctuation is a way of showing respect to language," says linguist Tom Daydon.I remember learning about apostrophes and my English teacher asking the class what they were. Someone yelled out, "Flying commas!" I always thought that'd be a funny band name. I say, save the apostrophes!
